Scope
This Privacy Policy informs users about the nature, scope and purpose of the collection and use of personal data by the University of Mannheim. The legal foundations of data protection can be found in the State Data Protection Act (LDSG) and in the Telemedia Act (TMG).
Data protection
Every access to the internet offer of the University of Mannheim is stored in a log file. The data in the log file is not personal. Thus, we can not understand which pages which user accessed or which files the user has accessed.
The following data is stored in the log file:
- Name of the retrieved file
- Date and time of retrieval
- Web Address
An evaluation of the access for statistical purposes takes place without detection of the computer (computer identification of the IP address), from which the Internet offer of the University of Mannheim was accessed, and limited to the network (subdomain) of the accessing computer.
A transfer of the log file to third parties does not take place.
Statistical evaluations - Piwik / Matomo
The web site of the University of Mannheim uses Piwik / Matomo, an open-source software for the statistical evaluation of user access. Piwik uses so-called "cookies" (see below).
The information generated by the cookie about the use of this offer is stored on the server. The IP address is anonymized immediately after processing and prior to its storage. Users can prevent the installation of cookies by setting their browser software accordingly. The University of Mannheim uses Piwik- / Matomo- Information exclusively in anonymous form.
Cookies
On our sides so-called Cookies can be used. These are text files that your browser saves on your computer. No user-related data is collected via these cookies. Set cookies will be deleted at the end of the session.
You have the option to prevent the use of cookies in the settings of your web browser. For sites that require a login, the use of cookies for security reasons can not be waived.
Cookies are small files that make it possible to store specific device-related information on users' access devices (PCs, smartphones, etc.). They serve for the user-friendliness of websites. On the other hand, they serve to capture the statistical data of the website usage and to analyze it for the purpose of improving the offer.
Users can influence the use of cookies. Most browsers have an option to restrict or completely prevent the storage of cookies. However, it is pointed out that the use and especially the comfort of use are limited without cookies.
Revocation, changes, corrections and updates
The user has the right, upon request, to receive free information about the personal data that has been stored about him. In addition, the user has the right to correction of incorrect data, blocking and deletion of his personal data, as far as no legal duty of storage is contrary.
Reference to data subjects
According to Art. 15 EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU-DSGVO), there is a right to free information as to whether personal data of the person is being processed and, if so, what personal data this is. In principle, a copy of the data may be required, unless a legal exception intervenes. If the data is incomplete or incorrect, there is a right to a correction under Art. 16 EU GDPR.
Other data subjects are:
Art. 17 EU-DSGVO: Deletion of personal data, if there is a reason for deletion.
Art. 18 EU-DSGVO: Restriction of the processing of personal data, if there is a reason stated there.
Art. 20 EU-GDPR: Transfer of personal personal data to a provider if the processing takes place on the basis of a consent or on the basis of a contract.
Art. 21 EU-GDPR: For reasons of a special personal situation, the right to object to an otherwise legal processing of personal data may exist.
Art. 22 EU-DSGVO: Gives special rights in case of automated decisions in individual cases including profiling.

Processing of access data
Each time you access our web pages and retrieve a file, the following data is logged:
- Date and time of the request
- requested URL
- possibly returned error message
- Size of the answer in bytes
- if applicable URL from which was linked
Processing is only internal and based on type. 6 para. (1) f) EU GDPR, whereby the legitimate interest lies in error detection. The stored log data will be deleted automatically after 14 calendar days.
Forms and web-based services
The website may contain forms and services in which the input of data is possible. The use of these additional options and the associated input of data is only on a voluntary basis. The data will be processed for the purpose stated there and will not be passed on to third parties. Unless otherwise stated, the processing takes place on the basis of Art. 6 EU-GDPR.
